Intarsia Mixology: a sip and knit workshop with Ann Weaver: SU Feb 10, 3-6 pm

7 Available

Intarsia—a method of working patches of color—doesn't have to be intimidating, and it doesn't have to create a snarled mess.

Think of it as mixing a cocktail. A base color, then add a little of this and a little of that.

In this workshop, we'll explore both. The knitting project we'll work on is a scarf/cowl recipe that includes simple, geometric intarsia motifs of various sizes. The recipe starts with two-color intarsia and gradually increases in complexity. By the end of the workshop, you'll feel comfortable working with at least four colors per row, and your color transitions will be top-notch!

While we knit, I'll be demonstrating a series of cocktails, beginning with two-ingredient drinks and increasing in complexity. You'll have a chance to sample the drinks, and you'll leave with recipes and tips for mixing cocktails at home. We will be hosted by the Hour Shop, a vintage barware and glassware shop just a few blocks away from fibre space.

Skills needed:
cast on, bind off, some experience with working with multiple colors.

  • fingering weight yarn in at least six colors (at least 20 yards of each color). Miss Babs Yummy 2-ply Toes are perfect for this project!

  • US#5 (3.75 mm) needles, 24" circular or straight.

Using US#5 needles and fingering weight yarn, cast on 60 stitches. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) until piece measures 1.5 inches from cast on edge.

Class fees are not refundable unless the class is canceled by the shop. If cancellation is made outside of 72 hours of class start time, you will be provided with a store credit for use for any future purchase with the shop. Unless otherwise indicated, our classes are for adults only. Your registration is valid for the dates listed in the description and may not be transferred to other class dates.

We offer a full refund within 30 days on any full priced yarn, bag or clothing item in original condition with receipt. Wound yarn or yarn smelling of smoke or containing pet hair may not be returned. Unfortunately, there are no returns on gift cards, needles, notions, books, patterns or discounted yarns.
