Learn a variety of finishing techniques in this two hour class.

Description

Once you’ve finished your project, you have to seam it together - but how? Learn essential tips and tricks to finish your projects and make them look their best! For knitters and crocheters, we will practice seaming, weaving in ends, and best blocking practices.

One two-hour session

Skills learned:

  • review of seaming techniques focusing on the mattress (ladder) stitch

  • how to weave in ends to keep them secure

  • best blocking techniques depending on fiber and project

Materials:

  • blunt tip tapestry needle

  • sharp tip needle, with eye that your yarn can fit through

  • locking stitch markers or safety pins

  • thread or embroidery floss that matches the colors of your yarn, or is close

  • waste yarn, with good twist, not fuzzy that is sock weight or lighter

Homework:

Bring in at least 4 swatches – 2 in stockinette and the other 2 in garter. If possible, block them before arriving. We will practice finishing techniques on them. If you have a project that you are interested in finishing, bring the project and the pattern, and we will talk strategies to finish at the end of the class.
